On Thursday, President Joe Biden presented Presidential Citizens Medals to advocates for abortion and homosexual marriage.
The prestigious award was given out at the White House Thursday to 20 recipients, including prominent gay marriage activist Evan Wolfson and lawyer and gay marriage activist Mary Bonauto,
who argued before the Supreme Court in Obergefell v. Hodges, which established a constitutional right to same-sex marriage.
Additionally honoured was Eleanor Smeal, who spearheaded nationwide pro-abortion efforts and often criticised the Catholic Church’s stance on sexuality and abortion.
According to the White House statement, “U.S. citizens who have demonstrated exceptional acts of service for their country or fellow citizens are eligible to receive the Presidential Citizens Medal.”
“President Biden feels that these Americans are united by their dedication to helping others and their shared sense of decency. Their commitment and sacrifice have improved the nation.
