After his wife passed away, Hunsucker was charged on counts of insurance fraud and acquiring property by false pretenses exceeding $100,000, according to records obtained by PEOPLE.
He had previously worked as a paramedic at Atrium Health’s MedCenter Air. According to the paperwork, Hunsucker applied for his late wife’s $250,000 life insurance policy after having her corpse cremated.
But a blood sample was preserved from her as she was an organ donor, and it was sent to the lab for analysis. The presence of tetrahydrozoline in her blood was supposedly detected at this location.
As stated in the affidavit, “the allegation is he put quantities of this substance in her beverages over a period of time” which ultimately led to his wife’s death.
In addition to being free on bail, Hunsucker was previously accused with arson “for an incident that occurred on Nov. 26, 2019 in Mecklenburg County,” according to the decision from August 6.
