Man Utd icon Denis Law passed away at the age of 84 after a battle with dementia.

Stated in reference to his diagnosis in 2021. I beg for your patience and understanding since I know the path ahead will be difficult, demanding, unpleasant, and always changing.

“I am aware of how my memory eludes me when I don’t want it to, how my brain is failing, and how this puts me in a difficult position that I can’t control.

Since I know there may be days when I don’t understand, I want to take care of my position now while I can since I do understand what is going and I detest the idea of that at the moment.”

In his latter years, when his old teammate Charlton was diagnosed with dementia in 2020, Law became an advocate for the Alzheimer’s Society. In October 2023, Charlton passed away.

Professional football players are three and a half times more likely to die from dementia than members of the general population in the same age group, according to a 2019 research.
