A distraught Erika Scholtes begged the court to let her husband go free so he could attend the funeral for their daughter with the rest of the family.
“Please, let him return home to us so that we can begin the grieving process,” she pleaded. She asked the court to release Scholtes until his next hearing, and the judge agreed.
In his defense, Scholtes emphasized that, with the exception of a 15-year-old DUI conviction and a dropped assault accusation, he had no substantial criminal record.
