Five years after a fire destroyed portions of the cathedral, Mr. Macron invited 40 foreign leaders to the reopening of Notre-Dame.
The cathedral’s bells rang out in celebration of the £630 million rebuilding project’s completion, which Mr. Macron said demonstrated France’s ability to “achieve the impossible.”
He said that this cathedral was a joyful representation of what a country is and what the globe ought to be.
Mr. Zelensky reiterated the US president-elect’s slogan of “peace through strength” after meeting Mr. Trump, saying the two had decided to work toward a “just peace.”
“We all want this war to end as quickly and fairly as possible,” he remarked. We discussed a fair peace, the circumstances on the ground, and our people.
Since the Ukrainian president’s election win last month, Mr. Trump has not met with him before. He is developing a plan to broker a truce with Russia and has previously promised to stop the conflict “in a day.”
